Right on Crime Approach

Out of touch politicians have put us on the wrong track by embracing public safety policies that don’t prioritize keeping Minnesotans safe. We need a “right on crime approach” that improves all aspects of criminal justice – more support for law enforcement, getting tough on criminals, and holding prosecutors and judges accountable for charging decisions that let too many criminals get back on the street to reoffend.

Ann Johnson Stewart voted against a public safety bill that would have provided for training and pay increase for law enforcement to address the staffing crisis facing police departments across the state. Our communities are less safe when we don’t have enough trained and experienced law enforcement officers. (SF2673, SJ7505 April 25, 2022)

Too many of the crimes in Minnesota are committed by those with long histories of criminal activity. We need to get repeat offenders off the street and stop the trend of catch and release. Minnesotans are struggling with the costs of daily life in the face of record inflation and economic uncertainty. While the state government budget grew by 40%, Minnesota families are left paying the bills. We can’t afford more tax and spend politicians like Ann Johnson Stewart.

When Minnesota had an enormous surplus, Ann Johnson Stewart had the chance to support permanent tax relief for Minnesotans, but instead she voted with her far left colleagues to raise taxes on her constituents.
Ann Johnson Stewart voted against more than $8 billion in tax relief for Minnesotans. It would have provided permanent ongoing tax relief for Minnesotans and ensure those who are struggling with higher costs in their daily lives have more of their own money to invest in their families. Putting Needs of Public Interest Before Self-Interest

Ann Johnson Stewart was a director and former president of PE Services, a business with millions of dollars of contracts with the state of Minnesota in transportation and infrastructure projects. She now identifies as an employee of PE Services, and the chair of her campaign uses a PE Services email address. Her husband is a vice president.
While serving in the Legislature previously, Ann Johnson Stewart was the owner PE Services, a business with millions of dollars of contracts with the state of Minnesota in transportation and infrastructure projects. When she was last in office, Stewart sat on the transportation committee and rarely recused herself from votes or meetings that would have given her business an unfair advantage.
Ann Johnson Stewart also pushed for higher taxes to fund transportation, including chief authoring legislation to increasing the gas tax by tying it to inflation and authorizing local governments to issue gas taxes.
The company Ann Johnson Stewart used to own and she still works is a vendor to the Metropolitan Council, working on the Southwest Light Rail Line. This project has been rife with overruns and is at least one point five billion dollars over budget according to public estimates.
